| 13.01.06 - Carter and Turners'
double act
UK Top Fuel Dragster racer Andy
Carter and multiple MSA British Drag Racing Champions Turner
Motorsport have announced that the B&Q Top
Fuel team will be fielding two Top Fuel Dragsters at selected events in 2006.
Rob Turner will be contesting the Easter Thunderball, FIA Main Event and FIA
European Finals in Andy's spare Top Fueller, which has been used for promotional
appearances since 2003. The Turners will be running two cars at these three events
as they also plan to contest the 2006 MSA British and full FIA European Top Methanol
Dragster Championships.
"This has been in the offing since 2004", Andy Carter told Eurodragster.com at
Autosport this morning.
"Steve, Rob and Carmel came to take a look at the car and to discuss running
in 2005. We started talking again in August. Rob has tried the car for size,
and the fit is not too bad.
"The Turners have been good friends since I ran my blown-alcohol Pop. I was struggling
and they came to help, and when I got my first Top Fuel car in 1994 they helped
me to put the car together. I really respect Steve as a tuner and Rob as a driver."
Steve
Turner said that he is looking forward to tuning a Top Fueller,
even though he will have two cars to look after at each event. "It's going to be hectic!",
he said. "However we will have a crew for each car and I will be overseeing both.
I have tuned a Fuel car before but nothing like this! It will be hard work but
we wanted to run the FIA tour in the Top Methanol car this year because we don't
want to let the class down."
The car is going to the workshops of Adrenaline
Race and Performance this Monday morning, when Steve Turner
will start the necessary work on the cockpit shield, chassis
diagonals and wing brace to bring the Top Fueller up to 2006
spec.
The plan is for Rob Turner to make his licencing passes
at the Peak Performance Day at Santa Pod Raceway the weekend
before Easter, so that he can go straight into competition
in the Pro Fuel Shootout at the Easter Thunderball. "We're
not looking to run mega times", said Steve. "We want to run
consistently and not hurt parts, and let Rob get a feel for
the car".
Both cars will run identical B&Q livery and also
the names of all of Carter Motorsport's sponsors, with the
Turner Motorsport dragster also carrying the names of their
sponsors G Max Racing Fuels, NGK Spark Plugs, James Lister
Hoses and Fittings, CT Autoparts of Rushden, Fuchs (Silkolene)
Oil, PSI International, Gold RV, Eternal Image Tattoo of
Rushden, and Rushden Graphic Company. "We would like to thank
B&Q and all of our associate sponsors for making this possible",
said Andy and Steve.
Whilst we're on the subject of the B&Q
team, Andy Carter added that he is to be the subject of a
feature in the Daily Telegraph next Wednesday (18th January).
