UK Super Pro ET racer Derek Flynn and the
Gold RV Racing team had a great weekend after their
six-and-out at the FIA Main Event where they spun a main bearing. Derek says that there was very little time for the
Gold RV team to rebuild the engine but that he is glad that they did.
"Another six straight off the trailer and then we made it all the way to the
final where we were beaten by just .031 seconds by Barry Giles", says Derek. "Congratulations
to all the Giles and Hartley team for their victorious weekend including young
Daniel, well done!"
Derek says that he only just made it to Shakespeare County
Raceway at the weekend and that it took some extra special
help and a few late nights from some very
special people. "Firstly a huge thank you to Jeff Bull who really pulled a rabbit
from the hat for us when at the last minute we were let down by a machine shop
which shall remain nameless", says Derek. "Jeff kindly offered
to supply us with a crank, and if I got him our block then he would have that
machined and readied for the new crank, balance it and then fit it for us, which
turned out to be another rather late evening, and all this within a couple of
working days. Thanks also to Belinda for keeping us supplied with tea, and congratulations
for reaching your final too.
"We also have to thank Lee and Richard of J & W Automotive
who also assisted in the engine rebuild, especially Lee who came all the way
up from Devon, helped
us rebuild the engine late into the night, and went home the next day. I also
have to thank the Go Gold Crew who really put in the hours
to ensure that we could be ready to race. So finally, after three attempts,
our luck at Shakey has turned around and we had a great weekend, and I do believe
that we were the quickest and fastest car of the meeting apatr from the Jet
Funny
Car, which makes all the effort and the thousand miles
of driving worthwhile. We would also like to say thanks to all the fire and
safety crews, marshals etc. who all did a great job and must have been absolutely
melting
in all that heat.
"We are looking forward to following this up with a good
test day at Santa Pod this Friday and hopefully a good run
in the Summernationals, although with Andy
Robinson and Gordon Appleton in our class I doubt if we will be the quickest
in Super Pro ET this weekend. It won't be for the lack of trying though,
so bring on the Pro Mods and let's see if they can dial in as well as they
look and go!"
